Frequently asked questions about urine tests and urinary complaints
Do you have questions about urine tests and urinary complaints? We are happy to answer the most frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed, you can of course always contact us.
When can I hand in urine at the front desk for testing?
If you have urinary complaints and suspect a bladder infection, you can hand in urine at the front desk. You can do this throughout the day between 8:15 and 16:15. Make sure the urine is fresh and has not been kept outside the fridge for longer than one hour. You can place the urine behind the small sliding window to the left of the front desk assistant.
How is the urine test carried out and how will I be informed of the results?
The doctor's assistant will test the urine and share the results with you. This can be done by phone or via the UwZorgOnline app.
How do I collect a urine sample for the test?
The test requires the middle part of the first urine of the morning, also known as 'midstream' urine. Follow these steps to collect a sample:
- First wash with a flannel and water.
- Pass a little urine into the toilet first, then catch some urine in a clean urine pot by holding it in the stream.
- To prevent contamination with bacteria, women should keep the labia apart, and men should first pull back the foreskin.
- Then close the pot firmly with the lid.
- Write your name and date of birth on the pot.
This method makes sure the urine sample collected is as representative as possible for the urine test.
How will I receive the results of the urine test?
The doctor's assistant will share the results of the urine test with you. You can agree with the front desk assistant how this will be done. This can be by phone or via the UwZorgOnline app. If you have any questions about the results, please do not hesitate to contact our GP practice.
How do I get a clean urine pot if I don't have one?
If you do not have a clean urine pot, you can easily get one from our front desk assistant. You can go straight to our patient toilet, collect the urine there and hand the pot back in at the front desk.
