Administering and ordering specialist injections via the GP practice

For certain conditions, our GP practice offers, as an extra service, the option of administering or ordering specialist injections and medication. This applies, for example, to allergy immunotherapy (such as Pollinex) and to depot injections prescribed for conditions such as prostate cancer or psychiatric illnesses.

We do this to make care more accessible for our patients. It is often more practical and more pleasant than treatment in hospital. In addition, these treatments at our practice usually fall outside the deductible (eigen risico), whereas the same treatment in hospital does fall fully under the deductible. In many cases, this also makes it financially more attractive for the patient.

Please note:
Although we provide this care with great care, these remain, in origin, specialist procedures that actually belong in secondary care (hospital and specialist care). In rare cases something may go wrong, for example in prescribing or supplying the medication, such as an error by the pharmacy or a mix-up of medicines.

In such situations we do not reimburse any extra costs, because with treatment via the specialist these would also have been entirely at the patient's expense via the deductible.

If we are expected to do so, we will reconsider whether this service is feasible. In that case, we will once again refer patients to the hospital for the treatment concerned.
We are happy to offer this service, as long as it remains feasible for both the patient and the practice.
