Frequently asked questions about the Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP) and consent

Do you have questions about the Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP, the national system for exchanging medical data) and consent? We are happy to answer the most frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed, you can of course always contact us.

What is the Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP)?

The Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP) is a system that allows doctors and other medical professionals in the Netherlands to share information by computer. It helps them get important information about patients quickly and securely. This allows them to provide better care and prevent mistakes. If you want to know more about the LSP and how to give consent to share your data, you can visit volgjezorg.nl. Everything is clearly explained there. It is important to know that healthcare providers can only see your data if you have said that they may. You usually give this consent when you register with our practice.

Which data from my file are exchanged via the LSP?

Important medical data are exchanged via the LSP, such as prescriptions and information about serious or long-term illnesses. At the huisartsenpost (out-of-hours GP service), they can view the medical data that your GP has recorded in your file (from the last 4 months). They can also see which serious illnesses you have and request your prescription history from local pharmacies. Hospitals have less access and can only see the prescription history from local pharmacies. Pharmacies can view the prescription history from other local pharmacies. If you give us, your GP, consent, these healthcare providers can view the data that are relevant to them. We as GPs can, for example, request your prescription history from hospital pharmacies.

Who can request data via the LSP?

It is important to note that healthcare providers only have access to data if the patient has given consent for this (verbally or in writing). You must give separate consent to each healthcare provider before they may share your data.
