Frequently asked questions about the medical need for COVID-19 vaccination

Do you have questions about the medical need for a Covid-19 vaccination? We are happy to answer the most frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed, you can of course always contact us.

When is a referral needed for a COVID-19 vaccination?

Only if you are pregnant do you not need a referral for a coronavirus vaccination. In all other situations, you need a referral from a treating doctor to make an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination.

Are there cases in which there is a medical indication for an extra vaccination?

Yes, in some cases there is a medical indication for an extra vaccination, particularly for people in the medical high-risk groups. This may be the case, for example, at the start of chemotherapy or after a recent organ transplant.

Who is the contact person for questions about COVID-19 vaccination in medical high-risk cases?

The treating medical specialist is the contact person for questions about COVID-19 vaccination and is also responsible for making a referral.

Can someone be referred for vaccination on an individual basis without a medical high risk?

Yes, if a treating medical specialist considers it necessary, a referral can also be made on an individual basis without a medical high risk. This may be the case, for example, with ring vaccination (e.g. also the family members of a person receiving chemotherapy).
