Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about STIs
Do you have questions about STIs (sexually transmitted infections, in Dutch: SOA)? We are happy to answer the most frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed, you can of course always contact us. Also see the information about PrEP.
Are STI and blood tests reimbursed, and how does the deductible work?
Yes, the STI and blood tests carried out through our GP practice are usually reimbursed by your health insurance. However, it is important to know that these costs are first deducted from your deductible (eigen risico). Bear in mind that the deductible can vary each year and that you have to pay this amount yourself before your health insurance starts reimbursing costs.
Can you have STI tests done free of charge at the GGD?
Yes, you can often have STI tests done free of charge at the GGD (municipal public health service). This can be an attractive option if you do not want to incur costs or want to avoid using your deductible.
What if I have my STI tests done at the GGD?
If you choose to have your STI tests done at the GGD, we ask you to provide us with a copy of the test results before we prescribe PrEP medication. This allows us to see the necessary information about your health and draw up an appropriate treatment plan. Without test results from the GGD, we cannot prescribe PrEP. Allow for a longer processing time for the test results, because the results reach us through a different system. So do your tests in good time, and not when you have almost run out of your medication!
How can the GGD inform our GP practice of the test results?
You can ask the GGD to inform our practice of the test results by e-mail. Send the copy of the test results to assistent@hohmanndevet.nl. This way, we can receive the information needed to prescribe PrEP safely as quickly and effectively as possible. Allow for a longer processing time for the test results, because the results reach us through a different system. So do your tests in good time, and not when you have almost run out of your medication!
How do I order new PrEP and STI tests?
If you use PrEP, it is important to have regular STI tests and to request new PrEP medication. Here is a step-by-step guide to ordering new PrEP and STI tests:
Step 1: Create a UwZorgOnline account (Uw Zorg Online is our online patient portal).
Step 2: Request a test kit at the reception desk.
Send a message to our practice via the UwZorgOnline app on your phone asking us to have a test kit ready for you at the reception desk. Please bear in mind that it may take a day to get the test kit ready.
Step 3: Collect the tests and do them at a star-SHL collection point.
Once the test kit is ready, collect it from the reception desk. Do the STI tests and hand in the swabs at a star-SHL collection point (prikpunt). The results will then be processed.
Step 4: Results available and processed.
Once the results are available and have been processed, you will receive a message in the UwZorgOnline app that your results are available.
Step 5: Request a PrEP prescription.
Send a message to our practice via the UwZorgOnline app asking for a new PrEP prescription. If you do not collect your PrEP from your regular Rotterdam pharmacy, please clearly state the name and address of the pharmacy where you would like to order your PrEP.
Alternative route for ordering PrEP (if your STI tests are done at the GGD).
Once the result is available and the GGD has sent it to our practice, send a message via the UwZorgOnline app saying that the GGD has sent your results to our GP practice, together with a request for a new PrEP prescription. Also, if you do not collect your PrEP from your regular Rotterdam pharmacy, please clearly state the name and address of the pharmacy where you would like to order your PrEP.
